Key Points
GTA 6 launches Nov 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox at $79.99, with Take-Two guiding FY2027 net bookings of $8.0–$8.2 billion.
Morgan Stanley sees ~40M units in 2027; Goldman models ~34M units and $1.9B download bookings after a 30% store fee.
Newzoo estimates ~$4.5B launch-week sales and says console revenue would be flat in 2026 without GTA 6.
Sensor Tower puts PlayStation at ~74% of digital pre-orders (~$441M); a 30% cut implies ~$132M to Sony from that early slice.
Sony guides Game & Network Services FY2026 sales to ¥4.42 trillion (−6%) while operating income rises to ¥600 billion.
GTA 6 Sony revenue is one of the biggest questions for gaming investors right now. Rockstar’s sequel lands on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two set the standard price at $79.99. So how could this lift Sony (SONY)? And by how much? We walk through what named analysts say. These are estimates, not guarantees.
GTA 6 Release Status and Take-Two Guidance
Take-Two has stuck with the November 19 date. Reuters reported that in May, when the company also guided fiscal 2027 net bookings to $8.0 to $8.2 billion. GTA 6 is the main driver of that outlook.
We covered the price and date when Take-Two set the GTA VI launch for PS5 and Xbox. There is still no PC launch day with the console release.
What Analysts Expect for GTA 6 Sales
Unit forecasts vary, but they all point higher. Morgan Stanley, via CNBC, sees about 40 million units in 2027. The firm said a 10% share of console game spending could imply about $4.5 billion gross for Take-Two.
Goldman Sachs, in an October 19 note covered by Investing.com, models roughly 34 million units in Take-Two’s fiscal 2027. That work implies about $1.9 billion in download bookings after a 30% distribution fee. The bank also cited more than six million pre-orders since June 25.
For launch week, Newzoo estimated first-week digital pre-order spend near $260 million globally. On its “proven sequel” curve, that points to about $4.5 billion in sales by the end of launch week. Newzoo’s wider band runs from roughly $3.3 billion to $5.2 billion. We tracked that demand wave when the Netflix preview drew huge pre-order interest.
How GTA 6 Sony Revenue Flows Through PlayStation
Sony does not publish the game. Take-Two (TTWO) and Rockstar do. Still, Sony can earn more from the launch in a few clear ways. Think of four pipes: the store cut, new consoles, subscriptions, and marketing deals.
PlayStation Store Cut Near 30%
Digital sales on the PlayStation Store usually carry an industry-standard platform fee near 30%. Goldman’s model uses that same 30% fee. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games has long described the standard console digital cut the same way.
Sensor Tower, as reported by Wccftech, estimated about six million digital pre-orders and $594 million in revenue. PlayStation took roughly 74% of those units, or about 4.51 million copies and $441 million in estimated spend.
Apply that 30% cut to Sensor Tower’s $441 million PlayStation figure. Sony’s storefront take from those pre-orders alone would be near $132 million. That is a simple estimate from third-party data. It is not an official Sony number.
Over a full year, the fee pool is larger. Goldman’s $1.9 billion in Take-Two download bookings already nets out a 30% cut. That means the combined Sony and Microsoft store fees on those downloads are large. With PlayStation winning most pre-orders so far, Sony would keep the bigger share. Exact contract terms are private, so treat any split as an estimate.
PS5 Hardware and Holiday Bundles
GTA 6 can also push console sales. Ampere Analysis told CNA that the launch should soften the decline in PS5 hardware sales and support software growth. Serkan Toto added that most new users will choose a PlayStation 5.
US tracking from Circana showed September PS5 unit sales up 22% and hardware dollars up 43% year over year. Some coverage tied part of that jump to GTA 6 hype. Circana’s own read also pointed hard to other titles, so the hardware link is real but mixed.
Sony’s latest results still show hardware pressure. Game & Network Services sold about ¥4.69 trillion in fiscal 2025. Fiscal 2026 sales are guided down about 6% to ¥4.42 trillion, per Sony’s SEC filing. Operating income is guided up to ¥600 billion. Memory costs remain a drag. We looked at that tension earlier in our July note on GTA VI and PlayStation sales.
PS Plus, Engagement, and Follow-On Spend
New consoles often bring new PS Plus sign-ups. More players also mean more store traffic after launch. GTA Online microtransactions historically ran for years after GTA V. If GTA 6 online follow-ons land later, Sony would still take a store cut on digital items. Timing for that online layer is not confirmed here, so we keep this as upside, not a base case.
How Much Could GTA 6 Sony Revenue Add?
Let’s put the named ranges side by side. None of these is a Sony forecast.
- Newzoo: console full-game spending up about 17.5% in 2026 with GTA 6. Console revenue near $46.9 billion, up 5.1%. Without GTA 6, Newzoo said console revenue would be flat.
- Morgan Stanley: about 40 million units in 2027. A strong share case points to about $4.5 billion gross for Take-Two.
- Goldman Sachs: about 34 million units and $1.9 billion in Take-Two download bookings after a 30% fee.
- Sensor Tower pre-orders: about $441 million on PlayStation so far. A 30% cut implies roughly $132 million to Sony from that slice alone.
So what is a fair read? For store fees alone, hundreds of millions look plausible if unit sales land near Wall Street’s mid cases. Add hardware, PS Plus, and later digital spend, and the total lift can run higher. It will not rewrite Sony’s whole Game & Network Services line overnight. Still, it can cushion hardware declines and fatten high-margin digital income.
Why PlayStation Captures More Than Xbox
PlayStation’s install base is much larger than Xbox Series. Sensor Tower’s 74% pre-order share fits that story. Microsoft (MSFT) still benefits on Xbox digital sales. Yet most of the platform-fee upside, based on current pre-order mix, points to Sony. Rockstar’s “plays best on PS5” marketing also steers attention Sony’s way. We broke down more of that reveal in our GTA 6 PS5 gameplay look.
Risks That Could Cap the Boost
Even strong demand has limits. Memory chip prices raise PS5 build costs. Sony has already raised console prices more than once. Ampere’s Piers Harding-Rolls said Sony would have preferred an earlier GTA 6 date, when the PS5 cycle had more runway.
S&P Global Market Intelligence still expects console unit sales to fall in 2026, even with GTA 6. Pre-orders can also mislead. Goldman warned that digital buyers often wait until near launch. And any delay would push revenue out of the current fiscal window for both Take-Two and Sony.
Conclusion: GTA 6 Sony Revenue Is Real, But Still an Estimate
GTA 6 Sony revenue should rise through store fees, some hardware, and network services. Take-Two guides to $8.0–$8.2 billion in fiscal 2027 bookings with GTA 6 at the center. Analyst unit cases cluster near the mid-30s to 40 million. Newzoo’s launch-week sales case sits near $4.5 billion.
For Sony, the cleanest number we can cite today is the store cut on PlayStation digital sales. Using Sensor Tower’s early PlayStation pre-order spend and a standard 30% fee points to about $132 million already. Full-year platform fees could be several times that if sales match mid-case forecasts. These are estimates from named sources. They are not promises.
