Bitcoin Kurs searches are surging in Switzerland right now. That makes sense. “Bitcoin Kurs” is simply German for the Bitcoin price, and that price has had a rough week. On Friday morning, one Bitcoin cost about CHF 64,180, or roughly $78,000, according to CoinGecko. That was down nearly 3% in francs over 24 hours.

So what is going on? In short, several big events landed in the same few days. The US Federal Reserve met. Fresh US growth data came out. A record hack hit Binance. And on top of that, $11 billion in Bitcoin options expire today. In this guide, we explain each driver in plain words. We also look at the key price levels traders are watching next.

Bitcoin Kurs Today: Where the Price Stands

First, let’s look at the numbers. Bitcoin slipped below $80,000 on Monday, as Cash.ch reported. It then traded around that level for most of the week. By Thursday morning, it sat near $79,600, down 2% on the day.

Later on Thursday, the coin bounced. It fell as low as $79,607 and then rallied to $81,547 on the Bitstamp exchange, according to BigGo Finance. However, that bounce did not last. After news of the Binance hack, CNBC reported that Bitcoin fell 2.8% to $78,489.73 on Friday. Ether dropped 3.8% as well.

The Bitcoin Price in Swiss Francs

For Swiss readers, the franc figure matters most. Right now, the Bitcoin price in CHF is about CHF 64,180, based on CoinGecko data. The franc is strong against the US dollar, so the franc price looks much lower than the dollar price. Keep in mind that currency moves can change your result too. If the franc rises, a Swiss holder can lose a little even when Bitcoin is flat in dollars.

You can follow the live chart on our Bitcoin page. For a look back, we also covered the day Bitcoin hit an 8-month high near $86,000 in September. That shows how far the price has slipped since then.

Why the Bitcoin Kurs Faces Bigger Swings

Bitcoin often moves a lot. Still, this week brings a rare stack of risks. Let’s go through them one by one.

1. An $11 Billion Options Expiry

An option is a contract. It gives the holder the right to buy or sell Bitcoin at a set price by a set date. According to Cash.ch, options worth about $11 billion expire on October 30. That is roughly a third of all open Bitcoin options on the Deribit trading platform.

Many of these contracts bet on prices of $90,000, $95,000 and $100,000. Those bets now look likely to expire worthless. The bigger question is the contracts near today’s price. As the price moves, traders who sold these options must buy or sell Bitcoin to stay protected. That buying and selling can push the price further.

Adam Haeems of the Tesseract Group gave a useful detail. He said about 70% of the hedging pressure sits between $75,000 and $82,000. Below $80,000, contracts to sell outnumber contracts to buy by more than two to one. If traders are positioned the wrong way, a drop through the $75,000 to $78,000 zone could speed up.

2. The US Midterm Elections on November 3

Next, politics enters the picture. The US midterm elections take place on November 3. Caroline Mauron of Orbit Markets said option sellers may wait until after the vote, according to Cash.ch. Normally, these sellers help calm price moves. Without them, swings could grow after the results.

The stakes are real for crypto. Control of Congress could shape how far President Donald Trump can push his crypto-friendly plans. A wider crypto bill, the “Clarity Act,” stalled in the Senate in September. A Bloomberg survey, cited by Cash.ch, gives a median year-end Bitcoin forecast of $90,800 if Republicans keep both chambers. That figure drops to $76,450 if Democrats win both. A split Congress points to about $84,100. Of course, these are opinions, not promises.

The Fed Decision and Its Effect on the Bitcoin Price

On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve held its key interest rate at 3.75% to 4%. The vote was 10 to 2. Two officials, Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack, wanted a rate hike instead. The Fed said that “economic activity is expanding at a strong pace.” It also said that “inflation remains elevated.”

Why does this matter for Bitcoin? Higher interest rates make safe assets like bonds more attractive. As a result, riskier assets such as crypto can lose some appeal. Before the meeting, Coinspeaker noted that betting markets saw about a 79% chance of another hike in December. The Fed already raised rates once on September 16.

History this year is also worth a look. Coinspeaker found that Bitcoin fell in the 24 hours after three of the five Fed holds in 2026. For more context, read our full breakdown of the October Fed interest rate decision.

Strong GDP Data Gave a Short Lift

Then on Thursday, new US data arrived. Third-quarter economic growth came in at an annual rate of 3.4%, above the 3.2% forecast, per BigGo Finance. The Fed’s favorite inflation gauge rose 3.6% from a year earlier. Core inflation, which leaves out food and energy, rose 3.1%.

Bitcoin climbed back above $81,000 after the release. At the same time, tech stocks fell hard. The Nasdaq dropped 1.64% in early trading, partly after weak ad results from Google’s parent company. In other words, Bitcoin traded on the economy, not on tech earnings, at least for a few hours.

Bitcoin Price Today and the 200-Day Line

Now let’s talk about charts. A moving average is the average price over a set number of days. Traders use the 200-day line to judge the long-term trend. They use the 50-day line for the shorter trend.

According to BTC-ECHO, Bitcoin has lost its 50-day line. The chart shows lower highs and lower lows. Trading volume on the spot market has also been weak. BTC-ECHO also pointed to hawkish comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and rising core inflation.

Here are the key levels from these reports:

  • $84,886: a recent swing high and the target in BTC-ECHO’s trade idea.
  • $83,624: the price at the start of October, per Coinspeaker.
  • $81,400: a weekly level that analyst Rekt Capital wants Bitcoin to reclaim, per BigGo.
  • $79,100: this month’s low, according to BTC-ECHO.
  • $77,147 to $76,777: the September 18 breakout zone, near the 200-day line.
  • $74,380: the level where BTC-ECHO’s long idea would fail.

BTC-ECHO’s analyst sees a dip toward the 200-day line as a possible buying zone for active traders. Coinspeaker put the 200-day average at $76,442 on October 28. Notably, the Bitcoin price today sits only a little above that zone. So the next few days could test it.

What a Break Could Mean

If Bitcoin holds the 200-day line, many traders will see it as healthy support. If it breaks below, the weak trend could deepen. Either way, nobody knows for sure. Charts show where people may act. They do not show the future.

Binance Hack Fallout Adds Pressure

The final shock came late on Thursday. Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, said a security incident had an impact of about $6.3 billion. Around $3 billion was frozen, CNBC reported. Binance pledged to cover all losses. It also said withdrawals should start to resume within 48 hours.

Even so, the news hurt trust in the market. Binance’s own token, BNB, fell 3.5%. We covered the full story in our report on the Binance hack. For now, the key point is simple. A hack this large can make some investors sell first and ask questions later.

What the Bitcoin Kurs Means for Crypto Stocks

Bitcoin’s swings often spill into the stock market. Shares of Coinbase (COIN), a large US crypto exchange, tend to react to crypto prices. The same goes for Strategy (MSTR), a company that holds a lot of Bitcoin. Funds like the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) track the coin more directly.

For Swiss investors, these are US-listed products priced in dollars. That means you face both the Bitcoin move and the dollar-franc move. In the past, we have seen how the Swiss franc can shift quickly. So it helps to watch both.

How We Can Stay Calm in a Volatile Week

  • Check the date: the options expiry is today, and the US vote is on November 3.
  • Know your levels: watch $80,000 above and the 200-day line near $76,500 below.
  • Size positions with care: only risk money you can afford to lose.
  • Watch the Fed: new signals about a December hike could move prices again.

Conclusion

The Bitcoin Kurs is caught between several forces at once. A big options expiry and a firm Fed both add risk. Strong US growth, the midterm vote and the Binance hack add more. Right now, the price sits near CHF 64,000 and just above its 200-day line. That makes the coming days important. We will keep watching the data, and we suggest you do the same with a clear plan.
