Key Points

Gold price today is the big question for many Swiss savers. After a rough October, gold slid to its lowest level in about a year on Friday. Then, on Monday, it bounced back by more than 2%. So, is the worst over, or was this just a short breather? Let us look at the latest numbers in dollars and Swiss francs. We also cover what moved the market and what banks expect next.

Gold Price Today: A Sharp Rebound After a One-Year Low

Gold had a painful end to October. On Friday, October 30, it fell 3.6% in a single session. According to Reuters via MarketScreener, that drop took it to its lowest level since October 2025. Swiss news agency AWP, quoted by cash.ch, put the London low at $3,937 an ounce. It called that the lowest since November 2025. Either way, gold lost almost 5% over the month.

Monday brought relief. Spot gold rose 2.1% to $3,954.41 an ounce at 1:49 p.m. New York time, Reuters reported. That was 11:49 p.m. in Pakistan (PKT). US gold futures for December settled 1.8% higher at $3,969.60.

What Pushed Gold Down on Friday

The fall was not only about gold itself. A selloff in tech and AI-linked stocks spread across markets. Many traders had borrowed money to buy shares. When prices fell, their brokers asked for more cash, which is called a margin call. To raise that cash, some sold gold, Reuters said.

Times of India shared a similar view from Motilal Oswal analyst Manav Modi. He said gold was temporarily used “as a source of liquidity rather than purely as a safe-haven asset.” In plain words, people sold what they could sell fast.

Why Gold Bounced on Monday

Oil was the main trigger. Prices fell about 8% on Monday after Iran and Qatar held a third day of talks to end the war. Cheaper oil eases fears of high inflation. As a result, it lowers the chance of more interest rate hikes.

That matters because gold pays no interest. When rates rise, savings accounts and bonds look more attractive. Traders now see a 77% chance of a US rate hike in December. That is down from 80% a week ago, based on the CME FedWatch tool. Meanwhile, gold’s Relative Strength Index climbed to about 37 from below 30, Reuters noted. This index shows when an asset may be oversold.

Gold Price in Swiss Francs: What It Means for Swiss Investors

Most Swiss investors care about the gold price in Swiss francs, not dollars. On that measure, gold stood at about CHF 3,221 an ounce late on Monday. That reading came from gold.de at 9:34 p.m. Swiss time. It works out to roughly CHF 103.57 per gram. It was up about 1% on the day.

However, the bigger picture is softer. Gold in francs is down about 6.3% since January, the same data shows. It also sits well below its 52-week high of about CHF 4,283. Over five years, though, the franc price has nearly doubled. So long-term holders are still far ahead, even after this drop.

Why the Franc Changes the Math

Gold is priced in dollars worldwide. When the franc is strong against the dollar, gold looks cheaper in Switzerland. So the franc price can move differently from the dollar price.

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) also shapes the franc. It kept its policy rate at 0% on September 24, the SNB said. Inflation was just 0.8% in August. A zero rate means Swiss savings pay very little. Because of that, the cost of holding gold instead of cash stays low for Swiss savers. We covered this in our report on how the SNB sold CHF 1.4 billion of francs in Q2.

Switzerland’s Role in the Global Gold Trade

Switzerland is the world’s biggest gold refining and transit hub. Its trade data gives us a clue about where gold is flowing. In September, Swiss gold exports rose 6% to 165.2 tonnes. That was the highest level since February 2025, Reuters reported via Mining.com.au.

  • Britain took 126.2 tonnes, its biggest monthly share since at least 2012.
  • China fell 51% to 12.7 tonnes, as demand there stayed weak.
  • India slipped 12% to 3.1 tonnes.

October export figures will come out on November 19, based on the Swiss customs release calendar. That data will show whether Asian buyers stepped in after the price drop.

Fund investors have also stayed active. The World Gold Council said global gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) took in a record $31 billion in the third quarter. Swiss-listed funds saw net inflows in September. Yet their holdings fell by one tonne, which the council linked to currency-hedged products. One example of such a fund is the iShares Gold CHF Hedged ETF (CH). In the US, the biggest gold fund is SPDR Gold Shares (GLD).

Gold Price Prediction: What Banks and Analysts Expect

Searches for “goldpreis prognose” also spiked in Switzerland. So, here is what the experts expect. Remember, these are views, not promises.

  • UBS: Strategist Giovanni Staunovo sees gold at $4,600 by December and $5,400 by September 2027, ADVFN reported. He views dips toward $4,000 as a chance to buy.
  • Bank of America: It expects a fourth-quarter average near $4,000 and says $3,750 is possible, per finanzen.ch.
  • HSBC: It cut its 2026 average forecast to $4,490 an ounce, finanzen.ch said.
  • Goldman Sachs: It still sees about $4,900 by the end of 2026, the same report noted.

Chart watchers are more cautious. Patrick MontesDeOca wrote on Investing.com that futures must hold the $3,820 to $3,879 zone. A break below $3,820 could open the way to $3,740, he said. Steve Barton told The Deep Dive that $4,000 is a key level. If it fails for good, he sees $3,500 as a possible next stop.

The Swiss Bank View Matters Here

Swiss banks are closely watched on gold. The wealth arm of UBS Group (UBSG.SW) remains constructive on gold over the next 12 months. It suggests a “mid-single-digit” share of a portfolio for investors who like gold. For more on the bank itself, see our report on UBS job cuts and its Q3 profit.

Julius Baer analyst Carsten Menke also sees long-term support. He told Reuters that US “deficits should persist no matter the outcome of the midterms.” In his view, the US debt burden should support gold over time.

What to Watch Next for the Gold Price Today

A few events could move gold this week and beyond:

  • US midterm elections: Voting takes place on November 3. The result could shape spending and debt plans.
  • US jobs data: Strong numbers could raise the odds of a December rate hike.
  • Oil and the Middle East: Peace talks pushed oil down. Any setback could lift oil and hurt gold again.
  • The Fed: The Fed held rates at 3.75% to 4% last week but left the door open to a hike. Read our full breakdown of the Fed interest rate decision.

It also helps to remember how fast gold can turn. Back in August, it hit a three-month high near $4,698, as we reported in gold hits 3-month high. Its record of almost $5,595 came on January 29, 2026, finanzen.ch noted. That shows how quickly sentiment can swing both ways.

Our Take on the Gold Price Today

The gold price today tells a story of two forces. In the short run, high interest rates, a firm dollar and forced selling are pulling gold lower. In the long run, central bank buying, government debt and war risks still give it support. For Swiss investors, the franc adds one more layer. Gold in francs is down this year but still far higher than five years ago.

So, we think it pays to watch rates, oil and the franc closely. Prices could swing sharply in either direction. Nobody can promise where gold goes next, so it makes sense to plan for both outcomes.
